    Al ben ik niet zo verkocht op het origineel, deze combat/movement lijkt een heel stuk leuker. Dat kan nog wel eens wat worden.

    Hollow Knight: Silksong Is Drawing Crowds At E3 For Good Reason



    There’s been a long line of people queuing up at Nintendo’s booth every day here at E3 to play the sequel to Hollow Knight on the Switch. These people have good taste. Hollow Knight was a great modern execution of classic Metroid-style 2D exploration and combat, set in gorgeous, mostly subterranean areas. Its sequel, Silksong, already looks terrific, as you can see from the video we shot.

    We tried out both of the demo’s levels, including an early one in a green environment in which new protagonist Hornet only has her basic jump and attack. In a later, tougher level filled with metal and volcanic rock, Hornet was more leveled up and could dash and do a strong special attack. She’s got some sort of dart for ranged attacks and can heal if the player spends a meter that is filled by defeating enemies. In the sequel, it seems like you can’t just heal a tiny bit. It’s more of an all-or-nothing affair.

    One of the most striking differences is that Hornet can pull herself up ledges, so if you’re jumping over to a high platform and you’re just a little too low (or it’s just too high, depending on your perspective), she grabs it and climbs up.

    It’s never easy to jump into the middle of a game, but the demo felt good. Navigation and combat are tough enough when playing a Hollow Knight game from the start, and they were sufficiently tricky in this Silksong demo. Nothing felt off, the combat felt challenging and good, and the levels looked and sounded great. Development studio Team Cherry certainly seems to know what they’re doing.

    Silksong’s appearance at E3 surprised me and a lot of the people waiting on the line. It hasn’t been that long since the first game, which came out for PC two years ago and for Switch last year. Nintendo press materials list the game as coming “soon,” but that could mean anything. Silksong is set to launch on PC and Switch.

    Beste Indie titel ooit en pure diefstal voor het bedrag dat je er voor betaald in verhouding tot de content en de kwaliteit. Kan ook niet wachten tot het vervolg verschijnt. De game is nu maar 7,50 op de switch shop, absurd weinig.

    Erg gaaf origineel inderdaad. Dit lijkt wel meer van hetzelfde, maar dat hoeft niet altijd slecht te zijn.

    While Hollow Knight: Silksong is still some time away from release, fans may be wondering whether the game will have a physical release. Thanks to a strange new listing on Amazon Mexico, that possibility might not be so far off after all.

    Apparently, the online retailer recently put up ‘Hollow Knight: Silksong – Standard Edition‘ for sale at 1,599 pesos (about $80 USD). Of course, it’s really bizarre that this listing even exists – especially since Team Cherry never announced such a thing before, and no other retailer has done likewise.



    A number of mistakes could be present here. Perhaps Amazon Mexico might be mixing the game up with the original Hollow Knight physical release by Fangamer. Alternatively, Amazon Mexico might simply be working off what they know from the game’s featured at E3 2019.

    Overall, there’s no way to confirm if this listing is genuine or not. We’ll report back if Team Cherry makes any clarifying statements on the matter.

    Gameplay Focus

    We’ve been tight-lipped on Silksong gameplay details, and for the most part we want to keep it that way! Discovery is a huge part of Hollow Knight so we don’t want to spoil all the new systems and surprises. Saying that, we’re going to quickly run-down a few basic bits and pieces. If you want to go in completely clean jump to the next section now!

    Healing

    In Hollow Knight, the Knight gathers soul by striking enemies and can Focus that soul to heal its shell.

    In Silksong, Hornet possesses similar skills, though her abilities are tied to the silk she produces. For Hornet, silk and soul are inseparably bound, her life-force fused with her thread. When enough silk is held Hornet can Bind, wrapping her wounds and readying herself for further battle and exploration.

    But Hornet’s Bind is significantly different from the Knight’s Focus. For one, it’s lightning fast! She’ll Bind in a blink and can even Bind in mid-air. Even better – you’ll begin the game able to heal 3 masks with a single Bind, a major boon for a low-health-Hornet which can turn the tide of a duel.

    Surely there’s a limit to all this power? And yes! Unlike the Knight, Hornet’s Bind consumes her full (starting) spool of silk. It’s all or nothing!

    And of course, even as fast and as powerful as Bind is, if Hornet gets hit during the action, the healing effect will be wasted and the silk will be gone! Staying alert is highly advised!

    Hornet’s healing ability matches her Hunter identity, flipping battles from moments of near defeat to empowered strength in an instant! It’s a tense, lethal flow that we’re thrilled for you to experience in the final game.

    Defeat

    As in Hollow Knight, defeat in Silksong can occur swiftly and often. Where the Knight left a Shade upon defeat, Hornet leaves a cocoon. This fragile container holds a full stock of silk! Experienced players can make tactical use of the cocoon, breaking it open only when most needed, late in a boss fight or challenging encounter, to give Hornet an extra edge.

    Dialogue

    Hornet has a voice! Though she isn’t the type to speak at length, Hornet’s not afraid to engage in conversation where necessary.

    This has been a profound change for Hollow Knight’s sequel and has presented numerous unexpected challenges, not the least of which is all the extra dialogue to write! When your protagonist can talk back, word counts expand fast.

    But never fear! As with Hollow Knight, we’re designing with all players in mind. Dialogue and narrative are there for those that seek it. For those that don’t, you’ll be able to ignore nearly all characters and get on with your exploring, hunting and powering up!

    Mapping

    Charting the caverns of Pharloom is one of the most important and active tasks that Hornet will embark on in her new journey. Fortunately, as she treks into unfamiliar lands, she’ll meet Shakra, who’ll aid her with charts, compasses and various other tools.

    For fans of Hollow Knight, the mapping of Pharloom will be a familiar process, using the same tools and same restrictions. Get ready to again step into lands blind to their layout and transform over time from a lost wanderer to an experienced wayfarer, with the many paths of Pharloom seared forever into your brain.

    Character Voices

    For several characters in Silksong we’ve been reaching out to select friends from the Hollow Knight community to provide voices. They’ve provided some twisted and over-the-top performances and have given much needed variety to Silksong’s larger cast.

    Thanks to Silksong’s E3 demo one character in particular has been receiving lots of special attention, the deadly fencer Lace. As the climactic boss fight of the demo sequence, she’s a huge test of player skill, similar to the Knight’s fight with Hornet in the original game.

    Lace is voiced by Mitsuki Hashimoto, one of the earliest and most active members of Hollow Knight’s fan art community. A huge thank you to Mitsuki for bringing Lace to life in all her sadistic glee!

    Release

    Thanks to everyone for asking and we’re sorry that we still don’t have anything conclusive to say. For Silksong we’re running on Cherry-time over here, that means both ‘When it’s ready,’ and ‘When it matches the quality and scale of Hollow Knight.’ Just know, we will talk about a release date when we’re 100% certain we can hit it. The last thing we want to do is make promises, only to see things slide. For now, we’ll continue stuffing all sorts of strange critters and surprises into Silksong. We can’t wait for you all to play it.

    En natuurlijk ook even in dit draadje. Groot kans dat ik vandaag de digitale versie via Steam koop en dan ooit in de toekomst een fysieke versie voor de Switch (2).

    Het duurde drie uur, maar ik heb gisteren de shopping cart boss verslagen.

    Dit weekend eerst een game jam, dus ik ga pas maandag aan Silksong beginnen met twee weken vakantie voor de boeg (niet bewust gepland, het moest zo zijn). Afgelopen dagen nog bezig geweest met een nieuwe run van de eerste game en twee vrienden bekeert tot het Hollownisme. Toch bijzonder hoe een game die bij de release onopgemerkt bleef 8 jaar later zo veel hype weet te creëren met een vervolg.
